Expanding Animal Welfare in Ifugao Through Free Kapon Services

Truly, February was the season of love and compassion as the Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF), in partnership with the Philippine Animal Hospital Association (PAHA), hosted the PAHA CARES Free Spay and Neuter Event in Lamut, Ifugao, last February 28, 2026.

This milestone for an animal welfare initiative in the Philippines was made possible through the collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Lamut and the Provincial Veterinary Office of Ifugao.

A Historic First for Spay and Neuter in the Cordillera Region

This event marked a historic first for both AKF and PAHA in the Cordillera Administrative Region: the first time these organizations have conducted a spay and neuter mission in Ifugao. More importantly, it made kapon services accessible in remote areas, allowing communities that previously had limited access to veterinary care in the Philippines to benefit from safe, professional dog and cat spay and neuter procedures.

Carrying the powerful message “Kapon is the key,” each dog and cat that underwent the procedure represented a meaningful step toward reducing unwanted litters, promoting responsible pet ownership in the Philippines, and building healthier communities.

Community Participation and Responsible Pet Ownership

The success of the mission was made possible by the trust, patience, and active participation of Lamut’s pet parents. Their involvement demonstrated that responsible pet ownership is not just an individual duty, but a shared commitment that strengthens the entire community and supports long-term animal population control programs.

Volunteers and Veterinary Partners Behind the Mission

AKF and PAHA extend their heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers, veterinary professionals, and community partners who ensured that every procedure was carried out safely and efficiently. This historic free kapon mission has set a strong precedent for future initiatives, bringing vital animal welfare services closer to those who need them most in Ifugao and beyond.

Building a Sustainable Future for Animal Welfare

Through collective action, Lamut has once again shown that responsible care is the true key to sustainable animal welfare.
